Tip 3 - Open Talking!

Leaders must develop an environment, which encourages the people they lead to talk openly and honestly.

What's the point of being a charismatic leader with plenty of vision and an enviable track-record, if you are unprepared to listen to the people around you? What if your leadership style means that the people you lead, are too nervous to tell you what they really think?

In order to ensure that you get the best results from the people you lead, you need to ensure that they are committed to you, and are creative and motivated in how they approach their work. Therefore, you must develop an environment where their ideas are affirmed and their views are accepted, even if their views are contrary to yours or call into question a direction, idea, or value which you are pursuing as their leader.

You must also ensure that amidst the pressures, challenges and strains of leading your business through 2012, you establish structures, which encourage the people you lead, to talk openly and honestly about their ideas.... and their complaints!
